Abstract: Objectives: Increasing evidence suggests that uncontrolled seizures have deleterious effects on cognition and behavior, particularly in the developing brain. “…In a 2009 statement, the International League Against Epilepsy defined DRE as the "failure of adequate trials of two tolerated, appropriately chosen and used antiepileptic drug schedules (whether as monotherapies or in combination) to achieve sustained seizure freedom" (1). DRE represents a major therapeutic challenge and can be associated with significant comorbidities, including cognitive impairment, depression, anxiety, developmental delay, and impaired activities of daily living (3,4).
