AGE: authentication in gadget-free healthcare environments

Abstract: Mobile and sensor related technologies are significantly revolutionizing the medical and healthcare sectors. In current healthcare systems, gadgets are the prominent way of acquiring medical services. However, the recent technological advancements in smart and ambient environments are offering users new ways to access the healthcare services without using any explicit gadgets. One of the key challenges in such gadget-free environments is performing secure user authentication with the intelligent surroundings. … Show more

“…Furthermore, existing measures for network security and privacy also needs to be improved. For instance, efficient, secure and privacy, ensuring authentication mechanisms using lightweight operations are required to be integrated with future communication networks to facilitate gadget-free communication [73].…”

“…Recently, a few more interesting authentication protocols such as [11]- [15], [30] have been proposed for ensuring security in IoT-based healthcare systems. Among them, only [12] has considered the data security (both privacy and integrity) features. From Table I, it is clear that only the scheme proposed in [6], i.e., a secure IoT-based modern healthcare system (BSN-Care) using body sensor networks can ensure most of the desirable security features such as secure localization, privacy, and integrity of the BSN data through lightweight cryptographic solutions.…”

“…With respect to local edge computing scenarios, it is also good to note that the existing security approaches developed for cloud-based architectures are not well suited for the purpose due to lower available capacity for execution and deployment [102]). Therefore, lightweight cryptographybased protocols, efficient, adaptive and lightweight end-toend security mechanisms are needed throughout the service processes [103].…”
