Age-Dependent Changes in the Kidney Morphology of Female DBA/2 Mice

Abstract: Abstract:A female DBA/2 mouse is characterized by the presence of abundant cytoplasmic granules in the renal tubules. In the present study, the morphometrics of kidneys from female DBA/2 mice at 5, 15, 18, 21, and 24 months of age were investigated to determine the agedependent renal changes in this mouse strain. Glomerular and tubulointerstitial disease progressed with age, and the semiquantitative scores of these lesions showed significant increases. Granules were observed in the proximal straight tubules an… Show more

“…These findings were in accordance with Yabuki who had the opinion that the electron dense bodies contained acid phosphatase-positive matrix confirming an association between them and lysosomes. [30] Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are molecules with one or more unpaired electrons. A moderate amount of these radicals are formed endogenously as a result of physiological metabolic reactions.…”

“…The kidneys were analysed in respect to chronic progressive nephropathy, glomerulonephritis and amyloidosis and each part was scored according to severity [ 11 , 43 , 68 ]. The liver score was based on the frequency of the appearance of (a) lymphatic infiltration of the intrahepatic bile ducts, (b) parenchymla granuloma and (c) necrotising hepatitis [ 16 , 39 ].…”
