“…Although studies disagree about whether knowledge of health is associated with smoking (McGee & Stanton 1993), our study showed that the rate of cigarette smoking was lowest among students in the health sciences field and among students in the graduate programs. This is in conformity with other studies, which revealed that students of medicine and engineering had a lower risk of smoking than those studying commerce and sciences (Sugathan et al 1998). Thus, education and the provision of information about the health hazards of smoking can be one aspect to consider in intervention campaigns.…”
