“…An additional anti-aging cream, Dermud™ (Ahava Co. Israel), composed of Dead Sea minerals and plant extracts was also used in these experiments. This cream has been tested in skin explants in vitro using molecular markers as a readout for its anti-apoptotic effect (Portugal-Cohen et al 2009;Soroka et al 2008). The creams were spread at about 2 mg/cm 2 on saran wrap that was placed between the UV source and the Petri dish with the cells.…”

“…In these experiments, the explants were pretreated for 48 h prior to UV irradiation with "Mineral Skin Osmoter," a solution rich in 28 elements, and were irradiated in the absence of the product. The authors found that the pretreatment stimulated cell proliferation and activity of mitochondria, decreased the expression of markers associated with aging, and limited UVB-induced apoptosis (Soroka et al 2008). In subsequent experiments, human skin organ cultures pretreated with Dermud™ (Ahava Co.), composed of Dead Sea mud, 1% Osmoter solution, zinc oxide, aloe vera extract, provitamin B5, vitamin E, and additional plant extracts, were protected against oxidizing radicals and showed reduced photodamage and photoaging after UVB irradiation (Portugal-Cohen et al 2009).…”
