Agenesis and lipoma of corpus callosum: Case report

Abstract: SUMMARY -The agenesis and lipoma of the corpus callosum is a very rare association. We report the case of a 18-years old woman with rare epileptic seizures since the age of 6 years, normal neurological examination, as well as normal electroencephalogram. The brain computed tomography scanning and the magnetic resonance showed the lipoma and the agenesis of the corpus callosum.KEY WORDS: corpus callosum, lipoma, agenesis. “…Epilepsy in callosal lipoma is severe, nearly always partial, and begins before the age of 15 years. 17,18 Sometimes lipoma can cause internal hydrocephalus by cerebrospinal fluid pathway obstruction. 19 Cerebral angiography reveals dysplastic, irregulary dilated anterior cerebral arteries.2° CT demonstrates a low-density mass with peripheral calcification between the frontal horns and above the anterior third ventricle.…”

“…1 Vonderahe e Niemer descreveram uma ocorrência de 0,08% após analise de 5000 autópsias de LCC, e uma rara associação com agenesia. 2 A porção anterior do corpo caloso é o principal sitio de localização topográfica. 3 A formação embriogênica do corpo caloso dá-se no sentido anterior para posterior, exceto a porção rostral.…”
