Agent-based control of VSC-HVDC transmission grid - A Cyber Physical System perspective

Abstract: This paper proposes a control scheme to coordinate the DC voltage of converters in a HVDC grid using a Multi-agent System concept. Such interactions between agents, converters, and communication units are approached from a Cyber-Physical System (CPS) perspective. The Multi-agent based control scheme tries to update the DC voltage set-points of the converters based on local and neighboring information. The information exchange between the agents and communication delay tolerance of the control scheme is studied… Show more

“…A variant of RT HIL approaches, which is very similar to co-simulation, is interfacing with other simulation and emulation systems. e.g., the approach in [27] and extended in [28] and [48] utilizes, in addition to HIL, detailed simulation models of various power system monitoring and control devices that can co-exist both in the real time simulator as well as on separate platforms. These devices are executed in parallel with the RT simulator and appear as real world devices to subscribing applications.…”

“…artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, cloud technologies) brings a further digitalization of the distribution networks, where small producers connected in the low voltage levels gain prominence in the energy system (Mayer et al 2018). Based on the latter, the power system is evolving towards a digitalized system in which ICT is one more of its components, instead of a separate layer (Babazadeh and Nordström 2014).…”
