Agility assessment through qualification and quantification tools: a case study in an Indian pump manufacturing company

Abstract: The Indian pump manufacturing industry, which has provided large volumes of jobs to the engineering community and contributed significantly to the Indian economy, is currently facing downward trend in a competitive scenario. 1 This is due to the fact that a major portion of the Indian pump manufacturing industry is yet to become agile. There are similar industrial sectors located in different parts of the world that experience the same trend in the global market and are yet to become agile. However, those indu… Show more

“…By employing agility enablers and attributes, various authors have developed methods to measure the agility level of an organization. A scoring approach and agility index have been used to measure the agility of various organizations [41][42][43][44][45][46]. Due to the involvement of large quantity of variables, they relied on an analytical hierarchy process.…”

“…Lin et al (2006) proposed a fuzzy agility evaluation framework comprising of agility drivers, agile capabilities and agility enablers. Ramesh and Devadasan (2007) conducted a literature study on AM, which leads to the identification of 20 criteria of AM and techniques for implementation of these criteria. The 20-criteria agility model developed through literature survey was used for drafting an agile quantification tool.…”

“…However, this model does not indicate degree of implementing agile manufacturing criteria in the company. In order to overcome this deficiency, the 20 criteria agile manufacturing measurement model appeared in Ramesh and Devadasan (2007). In this paper, the degree of implementing agile manufacturing in a company is indicated by using a measure called agility index.…”
