Aging and Longevity of the Jel: ICR Mouse

Abstract: Summary: Aging based on body weight and longevity was studied in 102 male and 72 female mice. The mean longevity and the last decile survival age were 73.8 and 112.3 weeks in males and 84.7 and 129.2 weeks in females, respectively. Females showed significantly greater values for longevity and also survival frequency in the 50th to 120th week than males. The old age phase after the 60th week seemed to be divided further into two phases, an early and a late phase, around the 100th to the 110th week. In four grou… Show more

“…3e ). Mice are sexually mature by 3–6 months of age and approach the endocrine equivalent to the human menopause transition by 9 months, and 10–14-month-old mice correspond to the middle age of humans (38–47 years), which is the perimenopause period at which estradiol levels gradually decrease 40 . Therefore, the parallel decreased estradiol level with the reduction in FPR2 seems to explain the increased incidence of NAFLD in postmenopausal women.…”

“…Previously established Fabry mice, appear to be clinically normal, with no abnormality in blood and urine analyses and a normal lifetime. Kidney damage is only detectable by histological analysis in 20 weeks old mice (young adult) [32] , [85] . However, this could be achieved by day five post fertilization in zebrafish, thus in a considerably shorter time.…”

“…Twenty 30-week-old male adult Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice were obtained from BioLASCO (Taipei, Taiwan). The 30-week-old ICR mice were considered as middle-aged (the average lifespan is 73.8 weeks) [ 35 , 36 ] which were the target age for our study. The mice were housed in a certified laboratory animal center at the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan.…”
