Air Conditioning System Design to Reduce Condensation in an Underground Utility Tunnel Using CFD

Abstract: In this study, the internal environment such as the air temperature, humidity, and wall temperature of the underground utility tunnel, was analyzed. The current status and problems of the air conditioning system were examined by analyzing the capacity of the exhaust fan and the air velocity inside the utility tunnel. The field experiment showed that the utility tunnel has a relative humidity of 95% or higher for most sections during summer. The deviation of the internal air temperature was about 4 ℃ depending … Show more

“…However, in a long channel-like structure, such as a tunnel, a method of suctioning and spraying air can be hindered by internal resistance, leading to reduction in ventilation efficiency and eddy currents. Depending on indoor flow characteristics, the air may stay in one place instead of being expelled [15][16][17]. Accordingly, this study developed a new smoke extraction device based on the Bernoulli effect using 3D computer-aided design (CAD) to overcome these challenges.…”

“…In this study, the validation model built in the study of Park et al [43] was used to secure the reliability of the fire analysis CFD model. The structural information of the CFD model was designed using the LiDAR model, and the entire section was implemented to simulate the airflow through each inlet and outlet.…”

“…In this study, airflow was analyzed considering the ventilation system of the target utility tunnel to detect fire location and efficiently remove smoke. A 3-dimensional CFD model was designed and validated for fire simulation analysis considering the air conditioning system of the target underground utility tunnel [43]. The model evaluated the minimum sensor installation distance spacing for fire detection.…”

“…Such plant life can be monitored regularly to increase the yield with high quality and quantity [24]. The smart device installed in the greenhouse has many sensors that measure environmental parameters, such as temperature and air humidity [25]. The temperature sensor and humidity sensors are present to control and monitor [26].…”
