Airport Redesign for Safety and Security: Case Studies of Three Scottish Airports

Abstract: ABSTRACT. This research study set to develop KPIs for airport safety and security using a case study and ethnographic approach to research, the focus was on the role of Facilities Management (FM) in improving safety and security at the airport. “…The adoption of BIM in FM and its incorporation with other systems and networks within the facilities management entails a bridge between the physical building and its intangible assets. Traditional facilities management targets managing the physical aspects of buildings such as fire safety, equipment safety, physical security, and much more (Enoma et al, 2009;Leung et al, 2005). However, security of cyber spaces and digital networking systems and platforms is commonly disregarded and overlooked within the AECO industry (Parn and Edwards, 2019).…”

“…We cannot generalise situations in 2 airports, benchmarking is necessary to a limit but it cannot be done throughout. Every airport has KPI on safety and security, the main focus in airports is the role of facility management [4]. It is very important to build a better airport with improved quality and safety systems.…”

“…The safety is a critical factor in the performance of any airport across the world (Chang et al, 2015;Enoma & Allen, 2007;Enoma et al, 2009;Leva et al, 2015;Pacheco et al, 2014;Roelen & Blom, 2013). Despite this great interest in airport benchmarking, the authors advocated that there is limited value in simple comparisons between performance indicators.…”
