Abstract: Introduction The epicardium and coronary vessels of the embryonic mammalian heart are derived from epithelial‐like progenitor cells of the proepicardium (PE). These epithelial cells migrate from the PE during development to envelop and adhere to the myocardium to form the epicardium.
