“…Based on dissociation and complex reaction kinetic rates between ferron reagent and hydrolyzed Al species (Chen et al, 2006;Huang et al, 2006a;Wang et al, 2005), the hydrolyzed Al species were divided into monomeric species (Al a ) (reacting with ferron from 0 to 1 min), planar oligomeric and medium polymeric species (Al b ) (reacting with ferron from 1 to 120 min), and three dimensional species or sol-gels (Al c ) (reacting with ferron after 120 min and non-reacting with ferron). The Al T concentration was measured based on titrimetric method (Chen et al, 2006;Guo et al, 2007).…”

“…It has been generally demonstrated that Al 13 or Al b is regarded as the active species responsible for coagulation or precipitation (Bottero et al, 1988;Gao et al, 2005;Hu et al, 2005;Huang et al, 2006b;Qian et al, 2008;Wang and Hsu, 1994). As we know, high Al b content more than 70% is found stable at total Al concentration (Al T ) below 0.5 mol/L; but the content of Al b would be less than 30% with Al T above 2 mol/L (Huang et al, 2006a;Xu et al, 2003). Therefore, how to prepare the high concentration PACl with high Al b content has become the primary goal for the research and production industry of PACl.…”

“…The relative stability of different polyaluminum complexes is highly sensitive to the Al(III) concentration and pH. The influence of these variables on the speciation of Al compounds in an aqueous environment has been previously studied by means of electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), solid-state Al-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, , wet scanning electron microscopy (WSEM), tapping-mode atomic force microscopy, and computational chemistry techniques. …”

“…Meanwhile IPFs have some disadvantages such as more coagulant dosage and slower flocculation rate. While OPFs can overcome aforesaid drawbacks, for it less affected by concomitant salts, pH values and temperature, and it has a wide range of application water, better water treatment efficiency, less sludge yield [1]. However, some OPFs can generate toxic degradation products and can only be used to treat industrial wastewater rather than drinking water.…”
