Algorithm Design and Implementation for Safe Left Turn at an Intersection Based on Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communications

Abstract: standards of MAC and PHY parts except for security were published. In order to control traffic flow and ensure driver's safety using V2V communication, various projects are conducting. In particular, safety application has been researched. Therefore, in this paper, we designed the safety application algorithm, which informs a driver of the dangerous status when driver tries to turn left in an intersection and we also implemented the algorithm.Proposed algorithm configures a model for a host vehicle and a vehic… Show more

“…A complex element are required to implement this such as the wireless sensor for vehicle detection, centralized communica tion module (base-station) for transmitting the information of sensor to the IDS, IDS and module for receiving a signal of IDS from the vehicle. It proposes a method for preventing a vehicle collision by warning to the driver via the HMI(Human Machine Interface) to predict the risk of collision with opposite the vehicle [3]. It exchanges information about vehicle-to vehicle location and speed using a WAVE protocol.…”

“…As shown in Fig. 1 There have been much of works to reduce or prevent the car accidents at intersections, such as a method using wireless sensor networking technology for vehicle-to-vehicle collision prevention [2], method utilizing a vehicle-to-vehicle communi cation using WAVE (Wireless Access in Vehicular Environ- 978-1-4799-8993-5/15/$31.00 m015 IEEE 232 ments) [3], VANET (Vehicle Ad-hoc Network) and ITS (Intel ligent Transportation System) internetworking method [4], and so on. However, those methods utilizing communications tech nologies may have limitations to be used in real collision situa tions, since the time that a vehicle collision occurs at crossroad is much shorter than the time to exchange messages to react to the accident by using communication protocols [5].…”
