Alkaloids from Piper longum Exhibit Anti-inflammatory Activity and Synergistic Effects with Chemotherapeutic Agents against Cervical Cancer Cells

Abstract: Piper longum L. is widely cultivated for food, medicine, and other purposes in tropical and subtropical regions. Sixteen compounds including nine new amide alkaloids were isolated from the roots of P. longum. The structures of these compounds were determined by spectroscopic data. All compounds showed better anti-inflammatory activities (IC 50 = 1.90 ± 0.68−40.22 ± 0.45 μM) compared to indomethacin (IC 50 = 52.88 ± 3.56 μM).
