Alkylglycerol Derivatives, a New Class of Skin Penetration Modulators

Abstract: The absorption modulating activity of two alkylglycerol derivatives (batyl and chimyl alcohol) on skin barrier properties was evaluated. Biophysical tests such as transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, as well as in vitro skin permeation studies, were performed in order to determine the effect of these compounds as chemical absorption modulators. Four drugs were used as models: three NSAIDS (diclofenac, naproxen, and piroxicam) and … Show more

“…3B). This transition also involved an increase in the fluidity of the SC lipids that could increase the skin penetration of DPH (Bernal-Chavez et al, 2017). Furthermore, after the SC defatting, the absorption intensity of the symmetric and antisymmetric C—H stretching vibration was significantly weakened (Clancy et al, 1994).…”

“…AGEs have been described to reduce cardiovascular and rheumatoid arthritis risk factors [ 51 ], the side effects of radiotherapy [ 52 , 53 , 54 ], obesity [ 55 , 56 , 57 , 58 ], microglial activation, and a neuropathic pain [ 22 , 59 ]. Additionally, AGEs are effective adjuvants [ 60 , 61 ], which modulate endothelial cell permeability [ 62 ], the immune response in vitro and in vivo [ 63 , 64 , 65 , 66 ], open the blood–brain barrier [ 67 , 68 ], are able to penetrate the skin [ 69 ], and improve sperm motility [ 70 ]. The search for new structural variants of these lipids and the study of their diversity and biological activities represent an interesting aspect of the marine natural products research field.…”

“…MAGE can be applied in immunostimulatory, antimicrobial, and antitumor applications and anesthesia due to its special biological characteristics . Moreover, it can be used as additives in drugs, , cosmetics, liquid detergents, herbicides, lubricants, and solvents . DAGE and TAGE can be used as fuel additives for diesel, biodiesel, and ethanol gasoline, which can effectively improve fuel quality and reduce pollutant emissions of respirable particles, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and unregulated aldehydes. …”
