Alkynylxenon(II) Fluorides

Abstract: Alkynylxenon(II) fluorides, RCC(triple bond)XeF, have been prepared from the reactions of the corresponding trimethyl(alkynyl)silanes, Me3(-)SiC(triple bond)CR, and XeF2 in the presence of [NMe4F in common organic solvents at low temperature. The existence of the linear unit C(triple bond)C-Xe-F was proved for PhC(triple bond)CXeF by the 19F-13C NMR correlation method using the HMBC pulse sequence.

“…In 2004 Naumann et al observed RC≡CXeF molecules (R = Me, Bu, Ph) in the fluoride‐catalysed reaction of XeF 2 and Me 3 SiC≡CR. The authors reported a significant decomposition of RC≡CXeF in solution above –60 °C 10…”

“…1,2 During the last one and a half decades significant progress in Xe-C chemistry has been achieved and three novel classes of Xe-C compounds -organoxenonium salts [RXe][Y] (R represents substituted phenyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, t-BuCÁC), [C 6 F 5 XeF 2 ][BF 4 ], and covalent compounds C 6 F 5 XeYhave been prepared. 3 -6 Recent contributions deal with the chemistry of alkynylxenon compounds: the isolation and characterization of [CF 3 CÁCXe][BF 4 ] 7 and the detection of covalent alkynylxenon(II) species RCÁCXeF (R D Bu, Ph) 8 in solution. In all cases, 129 Xe NMR spectroscopy was the key tool to prove the presence of carbon-xenon bonds.…”

“…55 A general synthetic method for the preparation of alkynylxenon(II) fluorides, RCMCXeF, has been published based on the reaction of Me 3 SiCMCR and XeF 2 in the presence of [NMe 4 ]F at low temperature. 56 The most stable of the compounds investigated, R = Ph, appeared to be indefinitely stable at 278 uC, but started to decompose at ca. 260 uC.…”
