“…6 The ATTL can be observed arthroscopically. 7 There are already several reports of arthroscopic lateral ankle ligament reconstruction for the anterior talofibular ligament, [8][9][10][11] calcaneofibular ligament, [12][13][14][15][16][17] posterior talofibular ligament, 18 and lateral talocalcaneal ligament. 19 Here we describe the arthroscopic reconstruction of the ATTL using a free tendon graft (ARATTL).…”

“…Previously, for a failed modified Broström procedure, ligament reconstruction with autograft or allograft tendon had usually been indicated for revision surgery. 20,28,33 Song et al 46 demonstrated that their reconstruction group (12 patients) showed a significantly higher AOFAS score and lower visual analog scale score than those in the Broström group (16 patients) at 12 months after surgery, although the difference between the 2 groups was not statistically significant 30 months later. Anatomic reconstruction appeared to give the best results, although it might be more invasive than anatomic repair.…”

“…Minimally invasive lateral ligament repair and reconstruction can be performed from an anterior approach with the patient in the supine position. 28,33 A noninvasive distraction device may be used with standard anteromedial and anterolateral portals, especially if concomitant cartilage lesions are present. Additional portals are frequently required in cases of lateral ligament reconstruction, but care must always be taken to stay within the "safe zone" in the lateral region bordered by the distal fibula, the superior Lateral approach, lateral decubitus position.…”
