“…a-As 2 S 3 is known as a low-loss optical waveguide material that is especially useful for IR applications. With an optical band gap of 2.25 eV, As–S glasses are transparent from the NIR down to mid-IR cutoff wavelengths of ∼10 μm while showing high refractive index ( n = 2.4 at λ = 4.8 μm) and good nonlinear optical properties. These features make As–S glasses an ideal host matrix for encapsulating IR-active NCs.…”

“… Amorphous As 2 S 3 was selected as the matrix because it is a well-known low-loss optical waveguide material that is especially useful for IR applications. As 2 S 3 has an optical band gap of 2.25 eV (which is transparent from the NIR down to mid-IR cutoff wavelengths of ∼10 μm), shows a high refractive index, and displays good nonlinear optical properties. The resulting all-inorganic thin film with PbS/CdS NCs dispersed uniformly in an amorphous As 2 S 3 matrix featured stable IR luminescence in the telecommunication wavelength region. The high optical dielectric constant of As 2 S 3 also reduced the dielectric screening of the radiating field inside the QD, enabling fast radiative recombination in PbS/CdS NCs.…”

“…Arsenic trisulfide (As 2 S 3 ) glasses have good transmittance of infrared radiation up to λ = 10 μm; they also have high refractive index, low melting temperature and high optical nonlinearity [8,9]. Therefore, As 2 S 3 glass may be an ideal host matrix for NIR-emitting QDs.…”
