Abstract: Background: Ambient ionisation mass spectrometry, in combination with machine learning techniques, provides a promising tool for rapid intraoperative tumour tissue identification. However, deficiency of non-tumour control samples leads to the classifiers overfitting, especially in neurosurgical applications.
