All-optical Signal Processing of Fiber Impairments in Dual-Polarization 112 Gbit/s m-ary QAM Coherent Transmission

Abstract: We have numerically implemented a receiver side all-optical signal processing method, i.e. optical backward propagation (OBP), by dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) and non-linear compensator (NLC) devised by effective negative Kerr non-linear coefficient using two highly non-linear fibers (HNLFs). The method is implemented for the post-processing of fiber transmission impairments, i.e. chromatic dispersion (CD) and non-linearities (NL). The OBP module is evaluated for dual-polarization (DP) m-ary (m=4,16,32,… Show more

“…In recent years, numerous experiments have demonstrated the increment in spectral efficiency of fiber networks6789. These include the use of orbital angular momentum (OAM)1011, multi-mode based multiple-input multiple-output transmission (MIMO)1213 or either by implementing advanced modulation formats1415, such as m-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)161718. The major limitation, of OAM and multi-mode systems, is reduced transmission distance due to intra-core XT, mode coupling and mode gain equalization that is a major issue for multimode EDFA.…”

“…However, it is ineffective to strike the load balance using just hardware with the average optical flow at each wavelength for each port in such works. Meanwhile, the key components such as tunable wavelength converters are still costly or immature for practical deployment [18][19][20][21].…”
