“…Yet, anamnesis is extremely important as a complete medical and dental history, being the most simple and efficient method for detection of risk factors which can trigger adverse events. Compliance with the guidelines of the local anesthetic doses is the first and most important strategy towards preventing adverse events; dosage calculations are recommended in order to avoid unexpected systemic reactions [4][5]14 . In present study, it was still observed that there is a tendency for mixing the signs and symptoms of anesthetic toxicity with those related to the vasoconstrictor, which may lead to mistakes in the selection or application of the solution, especially when dealing with patients with special needs.…”

“…Allergic reactions are the other most important general complications of local anesthesia. Although allergic reactions caused by local anesthetic solutions with amide linkages are extremely rare, clinicians should always be aware of the symptoms of allergic reactions, especially in patients with a history of polysensitivity to other compounds (11)(12)(13)(14).…”

“…Local anesthetic agents, which remain an integral part of dental practice, have been associated with the risk of developing severe allergic reactions. True allergic reactions to local anesthetics are rare and represent less than 1 % of all adverse local anesthetic reactions, but when they occur, they may be life-threatening [11]. Allergic reactions to the amide local anesthetics are extremely rare and may be due to the preservative methylparaben which is an ester.…”

“…Methylparaben has been removed from the carpules in the US, but is still used in the multiple dose vials in many countries. Sodium bisulfite is also a potential allergen that is used to prevent the oxidation of epinephrine in carpules that contain local anesthetic with epinephrine as a vasoconstrictor [11,12]. Recently, there have been reports of severe hypersensitivity to preparations containing povidone iodine [13].…”
