Allocation of Lineaments Based on a Digital Model of the Bottom Relief on the Example of the Caspian Sea

Abstract

This work is devotedto aspects of the application of morphometric methods of analyzinga digital model of the bottom relief for the allocation of regional scale elements on the exampleof the Caspian region. The study showed that the combined useof geomorphometric analysis methods, in particular shadow analysis and keel shape extraction by calculatingthe curvature of the relief, with data onthe distribution of earthquake epicentersmakes it possible to identify active fault zones and may prove very promising in assessing seismic hazards onthe shelf.
