Allothermal Gasification of Peat and Lignite by a Focused Light Flow

Abstract: Gasification of peat and lignite under a focused light flow was observed in a wide range of fuel moisture (up to 65 wt.%). The initial water content in the fuels under study had a different influence on the chemical composition of the synthesis gas (syngas). At the same time, the effect of light intensity was more predictable: in general, the production of gases grew with it. It was shown that the gasification of peat accelerated greatly when light intensity exceeded 100 W/cm2. Moreover, the conversion of peat… Show more

“…Some studies show that peat can be upgraded thermally by various methods, i.e., torrefaction [18], pyrolysis [19], gasification [20], or hydrothermal carbonization [21]. Each process favors different input substrates, process conditions, and end products.…”

“…Some studies show the prospect of thermal peat upgrading to fuels (gases or solids) using the overmentioned processes [18][19][20][21]28]. Nevertheless, none of them focus on medical/cosmetic peat waste particularly.…”

“…The pressure in the liquid supply duct was built up with a syringe pump (4) maintaining a constant flow rate of 80 mL/h. A coal particle (5) was held at the outlet of the nozzle (6) connected with copper tubes (7) to the vacuum pump (8) with a flow rate of 70 l/h. The vacuum pump generated a pressure of 5 Pa, sufficient to hold coal particles in place when they were hit by a droplet.…”

“…It is a relevant task to optimize coal combustion to maintain minimal negative impact on the environment. Coal pyrolysis and gasification [8][9][10], as well as combustion in the form of slurries [11][12][13] are generally accepted as the most promising approaches to the corresponding tasks. The slurries in question are often referred to as coal-water slurries with or without petrochemicals.…”

“…За последние годы в мире наблюдается рост спроса на углеводородные топлива [1]. Динамика потребления энергоресурсов предполагает заметный рост добычи и использования ископаемых топлив, что всегда сопряжено с негативным влиянием газообразных выбросов на окружающую среду [2]. Также одним из негативных факторов является производство большого количества твердых отходов.…”
