“…InSight has made the first surface magnetic fields observation for about a whole Martian year (Mittelholz et al, 2023). Zhurong magnetometer conducted the magnetic survey for more than 1.9 km in the Utopia basin (Du et al, 2023;Luo et al, 2024). Unfortunately, due to the limited exploration duration at each location (∼40 min), it is difficult to determine an accurate external magnetic field on the Martian surface from Zhurong magnetometer.…”

“…Using Natural Orthogonal Component Analysis of the daily magnetic variations at the Martian surface from also InSight observations, Luo et al (2022a) studied the source of the variations at different time scales and found that the seasonal variations primarily appear in the first eigenmode and may be due to the wind-driven dynamo current variations in the ionospheric parameters with the same time scales. The Carrington and sub-Carrington rotation periodicities appear in the higher eigenmodes and can be due primarily to variations of the dynamo currents caused by the variations of the electron density in the Martian ionosphere and draped interplanetary magnetic field with the same period ,Luo et al, 2024.…”
