“…5 The development of a chronic daily headache (CDH) has been described in 3 patients with CH using subcutaneous (SC) sumatriptan 6 mg within the recommended dosing schedule of a maximum of two injections per day. 6 An increase in CH attack frequency has been described by three authors in patients using long-term treatment with SC sumatriptan. [7][8][9] Other authors have given accounts of the uneventful overuse of sumatriptan by CH patients, [10][11][12] and MOH in association with CH is not a widely recognized problem.…”

“…Moreover, the drug was less effective for chronic cluster headache. In fact, there is only one clear report in the literature asserting that the frequency of attacks in CH is altered during subcutaneous administration of sumatriptan [13]: in 1999, Hering-Hanit described 4 episodic CH patients treated with the drug for the first time, and who developed a dramatic increase in the frequency of their attacks. Three of them developed chronic daily headache after being put on this medication for 3-4 weeks, and two experienced a longer CH period than previously.…”

“…Hering noted that the use of daily injectable sumatriptan in four cluster patients led to a marked increase in the frequency of cluster attacks 3-4 weeks after initiating treatment [5]. In three patients, the character of the cluster headache changed while two patients experienced prolongation of their cluster headache period.…”
