“…Conversely, reducing 5HT activity by neonatal administration of the 5HT synthesis inhibitor p ‐chlorophenylalanine (PCPA) increases male sexual and aggressive behaviour and sexual orientation toward a female in males. It also enhances testosterone‐induced defeminization in females (Hyyppa et al ., 1972; Wilson et al ., 1986; Farabollini et al ., 1988). However, manipulation of brain 5HT activity in the second week pp does not affect the behaviour of adult females that have not been given neonatal testosterone (Wilson et al ., 1986; Wilson et al ., 1991; Albonetti et al ., 1994; Gonzalez et al ., 1996).…”

“…The intracerebral administration of 5,6dihydroxytryptamine (Da Prada -1972) and 5,7-dihydroxytryptamine (Breese and Cooper -1975;Larsson et al -1978), both of which decrease the brain serotonin level, stimulates copulatory behavior of rats. Further, parachlorophenylalanine, a tryptophan hydroxylase inhibitor, was reported to be effective in the recovery of copulatory behavior in sexually inactive male rats (Sheard -1969, Hyyppa et al -1972Tagliamonte et al -1969). These results clearly indicate that elevated brain serotonin levels inhibit male sexual behavior.…”
