Alterations in odontogenesis and tooth eruption resulting from exposure to hexavalent chromium in suckling animals

Abstract: BackgroundHeavy metals including Cr VI are present in inadequately treated effluents that contaminate drinking water. Hence, Cr VI exposure can affect children through intake of breast milk from an exposed mother or bottle‐feeding formula prepared with contaminated water. To date, there are no reports on the effects of Cr VI exposure on tooth formation processes concomitant to tooth eruption.AimTo study the effect of Cr VI exposure on tooth tissue formation in suckling Wistar rats by assessing dental tissues a… Show more

“…These materials and tailing slags contain chromium, which is able to leach Cr 6+ . Cr 6+ was reported to pollute the environment and cause human poisoning and carcinogenesis [3][4][5][6][7][8]. Therefore, to achieve the comprehensive utilization of SSS and enhance economic benefits, it is necessary to solve the Cr 6+ leaching issue and ensure the safety of SSS products for long-term applications.…”

“…Stainless steel slag is a CaO-SiO 2 -based slag system, containing parts of MgO, Al 2 O 3 , Cr 2 O 3 , FeO, Fe 2 O 3 and other components, and is suitable to be applied to other silicate materials, such as cement, ceramics, glass and refractories [1][2][3][4][5]. Stainless steel slag, as solid waste, has a low utilization rate of its tailings after the metals and slag are separated due to a leaching risk of Cr 6+ under the temporarily stored treatment [6,7]. Therefore, its comprehensive utilization is of great significance to clean production, resource saving and environmental protection.…”
