Altered Myocardial Vasodilatation in Patients With Hypertriglyceridemia in Anatomically Normal Coronary Arteries

Abstract: Abstract-Reduced myocardial vasodilatation (MVD) in hypercholesterolemics without overt coronary stenosis has been reported. However, the status of MVD in hypertriglyceridemics has not yet been clarified. The aim of this study was to investigate whether MVD is impaired in patients with hypertriglyceridemia without overt coronary stenosis. Twenty-three hypertriglyceridemics (10 normocholesterolemic hypertriglyceridemics [HTGs] and 13 mixed combined hyperlipidemics [MCHLs]) and 13 age-matched controls were studi… Show more

“…This observation in our study supports previous work by Yokoyama et al who reported that myocardial vasodilatation was reduced in patients with hypertriglyceridemia without overt coronary stenosis. 27 Previous reports have shown that MBF and MPR are affected not only by classical coronary risk factors, such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes mellitus, 28-32 but also anemia, LVMI and renal dysfunction. 33-35 Inconsistent with earlier works, the present study indicates that fatty liver rather than diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia and hypertension is strongly associated with reduced MPR.…”

“…Third, the plasma HDL-C level was significantly different between the 2 types of cardiomyopathies. The plasma levels of TC and TG have been reported to correlate with MFR, 11,12 but there is no evidence concerning the relationship between MFR and HDL-C. Finally, a comparison of patients with HCM and those with DHCM was not performed in this study, nor were serial changes of MFR from HCM to DHCM investigated.…”

“…The first is epicardial coronary stenosis [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] and the second is disturbance of the microcirculation. [9][10][11][12][13][14] In this study, all patients underwent coronary angiography and the absence of angiographically significant coronary stenosis was verified. Therefore, the difference in impaired vasodilatation capacity may be related to functional differences in the microcirculation.…”
