Alternative to AHP approach to criteria weight estimation in highway bridge management

Abstract: Criteria weights formulation is the most essential component of a multi-criteria prioritization scheme. The research reported in this paper sought to critically compare a recently developed multi-criteria optimization criteria weights method to the well-known Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as well as the method employed by the bridge management software BrM (formerly Pontis), which is licensed to all 50 State Departments of Transportation in the United States. Using four criteria for demonstration (bridge pe… Show more

“…In ( 16), 𝛥𝑑 𝑔 𝑖−1 is the absolute value of the difference between the observed information utilized and the filtered output estimate at moment 𝑖 − 1, 𝑇 𝑔 is the performance threshold, and 𝑇 𝑔 is equal to 3𝜎 of the GNSS system position measurement error. By using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to calculate the weights of each factor [17], the relative weight matrix of GNSS system confidence is constructed according to previous experience as:…”

“…The most mature AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method [33,34] in the industry was used to determine the initial weights of the importance of 25 user demands in the Eco-city. This method can summarize different factors related to decision-making, and perform qualitative and quantitative evaluation [35,36]. When using this method for calculation, the judgment matrix needs to be constructed firstly.…”
