“…The high long‐term survival rate of dental implants situated in OBGs presented in this retrospective study indicates the safety and efficacy of this method for restoration of severely atrophic alveolar ridges. This survival rate (93.4%) was similar to the long‐term survival rate reported previously for dental implants situated in OBGs, thus giving further support to the effectiveness and predictability of utilizing bone grafts of intraoral origin to support dental implantation. The healing process after autologous bone transplantation is well researched and takes place in several distinct steps.…”

“…Thus, 12 studies cited implant survival as their main outcome, while five studies stated that they intended to use some predefined criteria for success assessment (eg, Albrektsson et al, Buser et al), although this goal was not necessarily achieved. Of those studies reporting a success rate, one study reported a survival rate and patients' subjective sensation, one study reported a survival rate, clinical parameters and patients' subjective sensation, and one study reported a survival rate and clinical parameters . Only two studies reported the full extent (ie, on the additional three parameters in the success criteria by Albrektsson and colleagues) of the aspects .…”

“…One study reported on survival and patient subjective sensation . Two studies reported on survival, radiographic parameters, and clinical parameters, while one study reported on survival, radiographic parameters, and patients' subjective sensation . Two studies evaluated all these aspects simultaneously .…”

“…16 As vertical augmentation and subsequent vertical resorption can be unpredictable, most authors prefer the 2-stage procedure and implants are placed after the bone grafts have consolidated. [17][18][19] Cardaropoli et al reported simultaneous placement of implants and vertical augmentation of the ridge. 20 The mean (SD) vertical gain was 4.0 (1.5) mm, but they did not report resorption of the graft.…”
