“…Spain, Germany, England, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria) in the second half of the 19th century (Welcomme, 1988;Elvira & Almodóvar, 2001;Copp et al, 2005). Currently, according to many sources listed by Rutkayová, Biskup, Harant, Šlechta, and Koščo (2013), A. nebulosus has been reported in 37 European countries. Information about its occurrence is still limited, although several authors report that in some places it can create stable populations and continue to be a significant part of the fish fauna (Holčík, 1991;Keith & Allardi, 1998;Rechulicz, Płaska, Tarkowska-Kukuryk, Mieczan, & Pęczuła, 2015).…”

“…Possible reasons for the success of this invasion of the brown bullhead populations are their potential to survive in sediment during short periods of drought, a high degree of parental care (Blumer, 1985), and also a lack of natural enemies due their ability to erect dorsal and pectoral spines as a defense against predators (Scott and Crossman, 1973;Kornijów, 2001;Moldowan et al, 2015), and their tolerance of a variety of environmental stressors such as contaminants (Pyron et al, 2001) and very low oxygen concentration (less than 0.2 mg L -1 ). According to many sources cited by Rutkayova et al (2013), the brown bullhead is found in many European countries. As reported by Holčík (1991), in water bodies in many regions, it creates a stable population and has a large share in the fish fauna.…”

“…These species are native to the North American continent and were first introduced into France from the Mississippi Basin in 1871 ( Spillmann, 1961 ; Vinginder, 2003 ) for fish ponds and aquaria. In 1885, further shipments arrived in Germany as well and subsequent introductions may also have taken place since then ( Pintér, 1976 ; Rutkayová et al, 2013 ).…”

“…The presence of Ameiurus nebulosus and black bullheads in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine was demonstrated in 2014 by a detailed morphological analysis ( Movchan, Talabishka & Velikopolskiy, 2014 ). The Ameiurus natalis appeared and formed European populations only in Italy after it was introduced in 1906 ( Wilhelm, 1999 ; Rutkayová et al, 2013 ).…”
