Ameliorative effect of dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) peptides on benzo(a)pyrene‐induced oxidative stress and inflammation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells

Abstract: Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is widely consumed as a health food and a traditional medicine. However, the protective effect of dandelion bio‐active peptides (DPs) against polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon‐induced blood vessel inflammation and oxidative damage is not well documented. In the current study, four novel DPs were isolated using an activity tracking method. The protective activity of the DPs against benzo(a)pyrene (Bap)‐induced human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) damage was explored. The … Show more

“…Dandelion belongs to the 2 meridians of the spleen and stomach of the human body, dissipating heat and poison, eliminating carbuncles and malignant sores and tuberculosis, dissolving food poison, and dispersing stagnant gas, which has the functions of reducing heat, detoxification, swelling and dispersing accumulation. [ 17 ] Xie et al showed that dandelion contains sterols, anti-inflammatory components, that reduce knee osteoarthritis in rats. [ 18 ] A previous study reported that the dandelion flavonoid is an effective anti-inflammatory and antibacterial compound.…”

“…Similarly, the peptides extracted from the swim bladders of monkfsh have shown signifcant antioxidative potential, reducing the risk of potential diseases triggered by oxidative stress [24]. Furthermore, peptides with bioactive properties derived from dandelions and purifed from watermelon seed hydrolysates have demonstrated antioxidative capabilities [25,26].…”

“…Taraxacum officinale is a perennial herb of Asteraceae. It is rich in proteins, fatty acids, polysaccharides, amino acids, vitamins, trace elements, flavonoids, phenolic acids, sterols, and other such compounds (Cai et al, 2023). Extracts from T. officinale demonstrate pharmacological effects, including relieving oxidative stress, regulating blood glucose levels, and improving immunity (Choi et al, 2022).…”
