Ameliorative effects of total coumarins from the fructus of Cnidium monnieri (L.) Cuss. on 2,4‐dinitrochlorobenzene‐induced atopic dermatitis in rats

Abstract: Atopic dermatitis (AD), which is characterized by intense pruritus and serious inflammation, is a chronic skin disease. Modern studies have testified that the total coumarins from the fructus of Cnidium monnieri (TCFC) possess evident biological activities based on their coumarin compounds. The purpose of this manuscript is to investigate the effects of topical use of TCFC on immune response, inflammation, and skin barrier function in rats with 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced AD. Results indicated that… Show more

“…[Urticaceae; Laportea herba] is total coumarins, with a content of over 50% (Zhang et al, 2013). The study demonstrated that total coumarins improved the atopic dermatitis symptoms of rats through reducing the production of IL-4, thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), and IgE and suppressed the pruritus caused by TSLP, and histamine (Yu et al, 2021). Laportea bulbifera (Siebold & Zucc.)…”

“…Some of the most promising substances are coumarins from the fruit of Cnidium monnieri (TCFC), which possess evident biological activities based on their compounds. TCFC upregulated the filaggrin mRNA in the skin of rats, while it downregulated the levels of IL-1β, IL-4, IL-31, and TSLP mRNA [ 40 ]. Another aspect to consider is gut microbiota, since increasing studies have shown a close relationship between gut and skin health.…”

“…Moreover, some plant extracts such as resveratrol, rice components and P. densiflora bark extract have been shown to reduce IL-31 production topically by downregulating mRNA expression of Th2 and Th17 cytokines [157,158]. Other promising topical agents are the coumarins from the fruit of Cnidium monnieri (TCFC), which upregulated the filaggrin mRNA in the skin of rats and downregulated the levels of IL-1β, IL-4, IL-31 and TSLP mRNA [159].…”
