Ameliorative Role of Bee Honey and Royal Jelly Against Cisplatin Induced Alteration in Hematological Parameters in Male Wister Albino Rat

Abstract: Objective: This study aims to investigate the ameliorative role of dietary bee honey and royal jelly against cisplatin-induced alterations in hematological parameters in male wistar albino rat. Methods:Male wistar albino rats of same age and weight were randomly divided into four groups; G, I: control group which was given 0.9% saline, G: II: cisplatin (7 mg/kg/d) was injected intraperitoneally for 15 d, G, III bee honey with royal jelly (500 mg/kg/d of honey and 100 mg/kg/d of royal jelly) fed orally daily fo… Show more

“…However, Morita et al [53] reported that there is a lack of articles that interpret the effect of RJ on anaemia. Recently, Bhalchandra et al [54] reported that intraperitoneal injection of RJ in rats improved Hb concentrations and mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) and suggested that honey and RJ exert protective effects against blood cell damage via preservation of cellular integrity. Our findings suggest that RJ feeding might have an anti-anaemic effect.…”

“…Flavonoids containing bioactive compounds maintained WBC counts due to their free radical scavenging property [23,22]. It is reported that honey and royal jelly showed significant protective effect on hematological variables [33] because they contain several bioactive compounds. Rutin administration maintained these hematological variables might be due to their antioxidant activity [7].…”

“…The treatment with beebread and honey might have protected blood cells from pathological consequences of free radical induced membrane lipid peroxidation such as increased membrane rigidity, decreased cellular deformability, reduced erythrocyte survival, and lipid fluidity (Bhalchandra et al, 2018) because they contain flavonoids, such as quercetin and rutin, which exert strong activity against oxidative damage and inflammatory response (Zuluaga et al, 2015).…”
