Amperometric Sensor Based on Carbon Nanotubes and Polycations for the Determination of Vitamin C

Abstract: Detection of vitamin C (VC) is necessary because of its wide use in chemical, biological, and pharmaceutical engineering. Here, we describe a sensing system for the determination of VC. Instead of a bare glassy carbon electrode (GCE), a prepared multi-walled carbon nanotube-polycation-GCE was used to detect VC in samples with higher sensitivity, better repeatability, and with a lower detection limit. Under the optimal conditions, the obtained sensor presented a linear response to VC in the range of 1-100 μM wi… Show more

“…The deficiency of AA has been associated with several pathologies such as infertility, mental illness, cancer and AIDS. [29][30][31][32] Nowadays, the detection of AA is performed using spectroscopy, 33,34 chromatography, 35 photometry, 36 and capillary electrophoresis 37 techniques. However, these methods are complicated, time consuming and typically require pretreatment of the sample.…”

“…MWCNTs/Ru(III) complex/Nafion ® /GC electrode>Ru(III) complex/GC electrode> bare GC electrode Increase in anode peak might be ascribed to good mediators properties of Na[RuCl2(N-Ph-5-Br-salim)2], as well as to good electrical conductivity and the great surface of MWCNTs. There are a large number of research papers of electrochemical oxidation of AA that showed GC electrode modified by carbon nanotubes has better performance than unmodified GC electrode 1,20 . Oxidation of AA on surface of modified electrode is shown in Scheme 1.…”

“…Ascorbic acid (AA) is a water-soluble organic substance important for a large number of biological processes as formation of skin, blood vessels, ligaments, and healing of wounds. It is known as a strong antioxidant agent that can decrease oxidative stress in the body and is, therefore, may play an important role in the prevention of different illnesses as cancer and cardiovascular diseases 1,2 . Deficiency of AA induces gastric irritation, diabetes mellitus, excessive oxidative stress, renal problems and liver disease 3 .…”
