“…There is a lack of reports of iridophoromas in amphibians in the literature. Reports of iridophoromas in amphibians are limited to a benign iridophoroma in a Mediterranean tree frog ( Hyla meridionalis ) (Stolk, 1959b) and an iridophoroma in a marsupial frog (Pessier, 2018).…”

“…Salamanders examined herein, had gills so heavily infected that moving the gills of fixed specimens caused large numbers of metacercariae to break free, reminiscent of grape clusters. Evidence of a concurrent septicemia was seen histologically in two animals, and Aeromonas sp., a known facultative-pathogenic bacteria of amphibians, was cultured from one of those animals ( Hird et al, 1981 ; Schadich and Cole, 2010 ; Pessier, 2018 ), although a post mortem bacterial overgrowth cannot be ruled out. We concluded the underlying cause of death of the CTS and SCLTS was the large number of invading cercariae, which penetrated the epidermis and then encysted as metacercariae.…”

“…In this study, the cause of edema was most likely related to a fusion of chronic osmoregulation failure and pathogens. Other causes of edema are a low solute concentration in water or acute renal disease (captivity) [45]. Thus, additional studies on the level of management and pathology are necessary to complement a microbiological and cytological characterization of this problem in captive anurans.…”
