An Access Delay Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, we analyse the MAC access delay of the IEEE 802.11e EDCA mechanism under saturation. We develop a detailed analytical model to evaluate the influence of all EDCA differentiation parameters, namely AIFS, CWmin, CWmax and TXOP limit, as well as the backoff multiplier β. We derive explicit expressions for the mean, standard deviation and generating function of the access delay distribution. By applying numerical inversion on the generating function, we are able to efficiently compute value… Show more

“…The effect of Assumption 2 is that new packets cannot be appended to an in-service A-MPDU. The time interval t 2 − t 1 is usually referred to as the service time [26], [27] or the access delay [28], [29].…”

“…If a network supports a set of traffic specifications, as: bandwidth, transmission delay, jitter-bound, data path-loss, etc then it is supposed to support QoS delivery. Several new mechanisms for service differentiation have been proposed (Dongxia & al., 2009) (I-Shyan & Jheng-Han, 2008) (Whe-Dar & Der-Jiunn, 2008). The quality of traffics including video streaming is getting better performance when the characteristics of the wireless networks are taken into account.…”
