An Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Control Strategy for Improved Power Quality in Multi-Microgrid Clusters

Abstract: Microgrids are being evolved as a potential alternative to reduce unrelenting dependency on central utility grids. Moreover, integrated multi-microgrid based clusters are forming in closed vicinities to enhance the benefits of microgrids. However, the power quality problem is one of the key issues to be solved in such systems, which is mainly caused by the rising penetration of nonlinear loads and interfacing of power electronic converters. To address this issue, this paper proposes a new control technique, na… Show more

“…In [19], an ANFIS-based damping controller combined with fault detection scheme is developed to provide proper damping performance into power systems with HVDC links. In [20] and [21], a fuzzy linguistic rule is developed for tuning the parameters which the input signals are transformed into the linguistic variables. In this case, the system dc current error and error ratio are used as two input signals to ANFIS controller.…”

“…The corresponding training procedure of proposed PID and ANFIS damping controllers are based on fuzzy role consists of input-output pairs data for training and tuning the parameters. In this case, a linguistic rule [20,21] is developed which the input signals are transformed into the linguistic variables. The corresponding controller surface to show data training qualities are developed in Figure 9.…”

“…However, the huge capacity requirement and charging/ discharging issues of these devices create concern. Thus, clustering of grids becomes a more efficient and reliable solution to overcome these drawbacks 3–6 . As compared with independent MGs, clustered MGs have less operational cost, increased reliability, and optimized use of storage devices 7,8 …”

“…The use of a similar strategy is shown in [36]. The fact that other FC systems were not evaluated under power outage conditions, except for the FC system produced in [25], [38], [39], and [40] which considered voltage imbalance condi- tions, is a significant finding from the literature study that needs to be addressed. Since voltage imbalance power quality issues especially power outage issues can greatly affect the overall power quality, the power factor, and efficiency of the fuel-cell connected power network, ignoring it creates great instability in the system.…”
