An Adaptive User Interface in Smart Environment exploiting Semantic Descriptions

Abstract: In ubiquitous environment, various kinds of devices such as automated appliances and sensing devices exist for providing user with convenient services. However, in order to use such devices with felicity, people should have proper knowledge how to exploit and operate it through heterogeneous interfaces. Then, to enable human user to utilize the devices easily, the integrated interface, employing them with knowledge of them at ad-hoc manner, is necessarily needed. Therefore, to generate the adaptive interface f… Show more

“…For example, Song and Cho [25] modelled the ubiquitous home environment through the use of a Bayesian network able to predict the custom devices in each situation. Furthermore, Namgoong et al [26] proposed an adaptive interface to enable end user to utilize the devices easily, through the semantic descriptions and ontology specification.…”

“…button size limitations), it does not take into account HCI standards that refer to possible functional diversities of the user because the user preferences are only tied to the display preferences, such as colors. Namgoong et al (2006) propose a system to generate dynamic adapted interfaces for mobile devices. This system comprises four modules:…”
