Strawberry anthracnose is a serious disease, and fungicides are currently widely used by farmers. Thus, biological control is a good alternative. This study aims to identify the species of endophytic Streptomyces CINv1 that was previously isolated from Cinnamomum verum J. Presl. and to evaluate its properties as a biocontrol agent, plant growth promoter, and plant colonizing endophyte. This strain was identified by analysis of its 16S rRNA gene sequences, and the result shows 100% similarity to Streptomyces albus CINv1. The CINv1 strain displayed high resistance (81.83%) against Colletotrichum sp. isolate CA0110, as tested by the dual culture technique. Additionally, inhibited pathogen growth on IMA-2 agar was observed under a compound microscope. The results demonstrated swelling, bulbousness, and cytoplasmic aggregation of abnormal hyphal, which were confirmed by SEM as well. Furthermore, the functional media used to evaluate plant growth-promoting properties, including nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, and siderophore production, yielded positive results. Analyses of plant hormones by HPLC found their ability to produce indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). Thus, a biological control trial in greenhouse conditions was conducted by spraying a spore suspension of the strain onto strawberry seedlings once a week, which showed a significant reduction in disease severity. After the seventh spraying, the assessment of the number of leaves and canopy height of the seedling showed significant promotion. In addition, the CINv1 strain established a mutualistic interaction with the plant cells through colonization inter-and intracellularly in strawberry roots, leaves, and petioles. Moreover, using LC-MS/MS to analyze the secondary metabolites of this strain, various groups of compounds were found that could potentially benefit pharmaceutical and agricultural uses.

Wilms tumor with Mulibrey Nanism: A case report and review of literature

Background: Mulibrey-Nanism (Muscle-liver-brain-eye Nanism = dwarfism; MUL) is a rare genetic syndrome. The underlying TRIM37 mutation predisposes these children to develop tumors frequently. In the largest published series of MUL, 8% patients were reported to develop Wilms tumor (WT). The published literature lacks data regarding the best treatment protocol and outcome of this cohort of children with WT and MUL. We report here a 2-year-old boy with WT and MUL and present a review of literature on WT in MUL.Case: Our patient had associated cardiac problems of atrial septal defect, atrial flutter and an episode of sudden cardiac arrest. We managed him successfully with chemotherapy, surgery and multi-speciality care. He is alive and in remission at follow-up of 6 months. Conclusion:A total of 14 cases (including present case) of WT have been reported in MUL and treatment details were available for six cases. They were managed primarily with surgery, chemotherapy with/without radiotherapy, and all achieved remission. The outcome data is available only for two cases, one has been followed up till 15 years post treatment for WT and other is our patient.

El síndrome 3M es un desorden autosómico recesivo, heterogéneo, poco común, llamado así por los tres investigadores que lo describieron por primera vez, Miller, Mckusck y Malvaux. Las características principales son retraso en el crecimiento prenatal y postnatal severo, dismorfias faciales y anomalías radiológicas. En sus manifestaciones estomatológicas presentan dolicocefalia, abombamiento frontal, cara triangular, labios gruesos, cejas pobladas, hipoplasia maxilar severa, facies melancólicas, retraso en la erupción dental severa y falta de crecimiento del macizo facial. El objetivo del artículo es la descripción de casos gemelares de 8 años y 6 meses de edad, que acuden a la Clínica de Atención Dental Avanzada de la Universidad de Monterrey, con confirmación del síndrome 3M por prueba sanguínea a los 4 años de edad por parte del Servicio de Genética del Hospital Universitario. Se realiza rehabilitación bucal de ambas niñas, y, posteriormente, son referidas a interconsulta con ortodoncia interceptiva. MÉD.UIS.2019;32(2): 59-65
