Scientific researchers need support for their information gathering from the Web, because the growth of Internet accessibility raises the problem of Internet information overload. Social Bookmarking Service (SBS) is a promising technology to solve the problem by the benefit of collaborative information gathering. The paper describes the design and evaluation of a novel function of SBS to foster collaborative information gathering by providing mutual awareness information about browsing behaviors of SBS users. This information increases the probabilities of discovering the useful information by recommending the potential collaborators to the user. A case study on an experimental SBS was performed to evaluate the feasibility of the mutual awareness information for individuals and research communities. In order to verify the validity of the design quantitatively, an experiment was conducted using agent-based simulation based on an extension of the SIR model for epidemics. The results, either from the case study or the agent-based simulation, argue the effectiveness of the proposed function to provide mutual awareness information for fostering collaborative information gathering in SBS.

A method of applying agent technology to study agricultural economic information and construct decision-making system was provided by means of analyzing the problems existed in current assistant decision support system. The design idea and development technologies were discussed. The prototype of agent-based agricultural economic information analysis and decision-making system was built, and realize agricultural economy information and software sharing, cooperation analysis and group decision making in distributed system. Combining with various analyzing models and knowledge models, we implemented the cooperation and integration between prediction function and decision-making function. (Abstract)

Wikis have proved to be very effective collaboration and knowledge management tools in large variety of fields thanks to their simplicity and flexible nature. Another important development for the internet is the emergence of powerful mobile devices supported by fast and reliable wireless networks. The combination of these developments begs the question of how to extend wikis on mobile devices and how to leverage mobile devices' rich modalities to supplement current wikis. Realizing that composing and consuming through auditory channel is the most natural and efficient way for mobile device user, this paper explores the use of audio as the medium of wiki. Our work, as the first step towards this direction, creates a framework called Mobile Audio Wiki which facilitates asynchronous audiomediated collaboration on the move. In this paper, we present the design of Mobile Audio Wiki. As a part of such design, we propose an innovative approach for a light-weight audio content annotation system for enabling group editing, versioning and cross-linking among audio clips. To elucidate the novel collaboration model introduced by Mobile Audio Wiki, its four usage modes are identified and presented in storyboard format. Finally, we describe the initial design for presentation and navigation of Mobile Audio Wiki.
