An algebraic parameter estimation approach to the adaptive observer-controller based regulation of the boost converter

Abstract: Abstract-In this article, a new approach is proposed for the problem of output voltage reference trajectory tracking in a boost converter with unknown, piecewise constant, load resistance values, under the restriction of noisy output voltage measurements alone. We use a nonlinear algebraic parameter estimation approach for the fast computation of the actual value of the stepwise changing load. With this information, a reduced order nonlinear observer for the inductor current is updated as well as a static passi… Show more

“…The proposed procedure is based on dynamic compensation of disturbance effects through an on-line updating of the selected current reference φ n (t) = φ n (t, λ ) according to the instantaneous variation of λ , which is assumed to be estimated (using, for example, the algebraic estimator [12]) or measured. This fact implies that the study carried out in Section IV may be applicable in such a perturbed situation whenever Assumptions A, B and C are ensured for all λ ∈ Λ.…”

“…Contributions taking up this challenge can be gathered in two groups. The first one focuses on specific applications, see for example, References 16–19 and references therein, whereas the second one considers the stabilization problem in a broader context 20–22 . In both cases, the most widely used control strategy consists in implementing an adaptive controller fed by a perturbation observer.…”

“…The second type of contributions is power converters oriented. More contributions can be found in this case (see (Sira-Ramirez et al 2007) and references therein) but the results are specific to the considered application. As an example, for boost converters with unknown, piecewise constant, load resistance values an interesting contribution is proposed in (Sira-Ramirez et al 2007) based on a nonlinear algebraic parameter estimation associated to a reduced order observer and a static output feedback.…”
