An algorithm for performance evaluation of resilience engineering culture based on graph theory and matrix approach

Abstract: While strengths can be improved, when weaknesses are not addressed, the desired improvements are not achievable. Determining weaknesses and strengths is much more important when it comes to safety issues in critical industrial units. Oil, gas and petrochemical industry is the main pillar of the economy in Iran. Not only most of the oil, gas and petrochemical infrastructure in Iran are old and worn-out, but also the safety management practices are not adequate. Resilience engineering is a growing concept toward… Show more

“…One way of analyzing such findings is to place the selected studies in a continuum ranging from formal and more technological approaches to informal and relational aspects of resilience. Examples of the first kind of study are the articles by Azadeh et al, 2016 , Rabbani et al, 2019 , Thorogood, 2013 , Thorogood and Crichton, 2014 . Azadeh et al (2016) operationalizes the concepts of resilience engineering in terms of human and equipment redundancy as a factor contributing to improving system efficiency.…”

“…Besides, each factor and their relations can be investigated by using digraphs. It is important to see the importance of the factors in order to focus on which factors and to see which ones need improvement to improve the system (Rabbani et al 2019 ). With this approach, complex systems can be analysed rapidly, and the relationships between factors affecting the system can be easily revealed.…”
