An Alternative Technique for Orthotopic Cardiac Transplantation, with Preservation of the Normal Anatomy of the Right Atrium

Abstract: The standard technique for orthotopic cardiac transplantation implies large atrial anastomoses which do not preserve the anatomical integrity of the donor atria. This may become a potential source of electrophysiological and mechanical atrial dysfunction, especially in the right atrium with the sinus node and the sensitive low-pressure atrioventricular valve.
