An Analog-Digital Mixed Measurement Method of Inductive Proximity Sensor

Abstract: Inductive proximity sensors (IPSs) are widely used in position detection given their unique advantages. To address the problem of temperature drift, this paper presents an analog-digital mixed measurement method based on the two-dimensional look-up table. The inductance and resistance components can be separated by processing the measurement data, thus reducing temperature drift and generating quantitative outputs. This study establishes and implements a two-dimensional look-up table that reduces the online co… Show more

“…As alternatives to cameras, non-contact proximity sensors become critical components in pre-collision planners. Some of the state-of-art sensing principles of operation include infrared radiation (IR) [6], inductance [7], and capacitance [8]. Each technology has its advantages and disadvantages related to physical effect exploited for measurement.…”

“…For an aircraft, the required mechanical distance measurements are usually in the range of 2–6 mm, and the required measurements accuracy are in the range of 0.2–1.0 mm [ 7 , 10 , 12 , 13 ]. According to RTCA-DO-160F (a standard for the environmental testing of avionics hardware named environmental conditions and test procedures for airborne equipment), the required operating temperature ranges from −55–0 C and 55–70 C [ 10 , 12 , 13 , 14 ]. The sensors are located on the landing gear, doors, cargo loading systems, and thrust reverser actuation systems (TRAS) [ 10 , 11 , 13 , 15 ].…”

“…However, these sensors use rapid variation in magnetic reluctance of cores as switching outputs, which seriously affects ambient electromagnetic environment [ 7 , 13 , 15 , 16 ]. In order to satisfy the emission of radio frequency energy testing of RTCA-DO-160F, any open magnetic circuit with large current excitation should be avoided in avionic applications [ 10 , 12 , 16 ]. Hence, IPS with small current excitation (usually less than 15 mA) is widely used in the field of aviation [ 12 , 13 , 15 , 16 ].…”
