An Analvsis of the Decay Properties of the F and M Centers in LiF Crystals

Abstract: An Analv, sis of the Decay Properties of the F and M Centers in L i F Crystals By 1) 2 ) L. BOSI and M. MMISIn the last few years the ag'gregate centers in alkali halides have been extensively studied because of their importance in applied physics (for instance, laser physics). Furthermore, L i F crystals, pure and doped with suitable impurities, have been investigated and utilized f o r dosimetry.

“…LiF crystals, pure and doped with suitable impurities, have been extensively studied in literature because of their importance in applied physics (for instance laser physics and dosimetry). A very large quantity of different defects are always present in samples coloured by irradiation; unfortunately, nobody has succeeded in obtaining a suitable additive colouration of pure or doped LiF samples [13]. Bosi et al, in the past, studied the decay properties of aggregate centres in LiF and in particular those concerning the M centres (see [13] and references therein).…”

“…As compared to other crystals where the triplet state can be created by optical excitation [6,7], in LiF crystal the filling of S-T level crossing seem to occur only in the process of band electron thermalization. That is why the PL intensity of F 2 (S 1 ) centers does not depend on temperature in the interval 80-250 K [8] while the RL intensity decreases with temperature growth (Fig. 1).…”
