“…Females are reluctant to report violence by husbands or partners. 26 Traffic injuries are less common in Europe than before, associated with the mandatory use of safety belts and helmets, compliance with speed limits, an increased frequency of safety checks, and rules for safe driving. We treated 252 cases (approximately 20% of all cases) of facial trauma caused by road accidents, thus a lower proportion than that of another study 11 (42.7%), reflecting the decrease in accidents over time in developed countries.…”

This difference is attributed in part to the aging of the population experienced by higher income countries (15,16) and to the successful implementation of road legislation measures in response to the main cause identified to control its incidence (2,15,17). The context described has motivated the WHO to promote, since 1996, the increase in funding for research in the area of traumatology, pointing it out in its Priority Program on Disease Control in Developing Countries (DCPDC), as an “Optimal investment” considering it a public health problem due to its magnitude and severity (2,3).…”

“…Regarding the distribution of victims according to the day shift and weekday, the nocturnal period and the concentration of occurrences on Sunday corroborate other findings. 1,21,31 Research developed in Brazil has shown that violent crimes committed against men are associated with night time and weekends. 22 This can probably be explained by the fact that during this time, individuals often go to places in search of fun and leisure, with large concentrations of people and frequent exposure to alcohol and drugs.…”
