However, it must be emphasized that geographical barn swallow populations have been shown to markedly differ in several aspects of morphology, coloration and behavior, including sexual selection [37], [47], [48], and more information on the fitness correlates of darkness in belly coloration from our study population is required before any conclusion can be drawn.
