The COVID-19 pandemic has a multifaceted impact on mental health due to ill health, restrictions and lockdowns, and loss of employment and institutional support. COVID-19 may disproportionally impact families with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) due to the already higher prevalence of mental health conditions in children with SEND and their parents. Therefore, it is essential to determine the short-term impact of the pandemic on the mental health of families with SEND in order to identify their ongoing health support needs. The current study aims to examine the anxiety level and concerns of children with SEND and their parents living in China. The sample consisted of 271 parents of children with SEND aged between 6 and 17 years (Mage = 8.37; SDage = 2.76). Parents completed an online survey between 10 April to 8 June 2020. Both child and parental anxiety levels and various concerns increased after the initial wave of COVID-19 when compared with retrospective pre-COVID-19 levels. Parental anxiety and concern levels were significantly higher for those living in rural areas compared to urban areas. In addition, parental and child anxiety and concern levels were significantly correlated with each other. Parental anxiety at the lowest level made a unique and significant statistical contribution to children's anxiety levels. The implications of the study findings are discussed.

Pendahuluan: Pemberlakuan Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh (PJJ) karena pandemi COVID-19 tidak hanya memengaruhi anak didik, tapi juga orangtua terutama ibu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran kesehatan mental (stres dan ansietas) ibu dengan anak SD-SMA yang menjalani PJJ di Jabodetabek dan kaitannya dengan tingkat pendidikan dan status pekerjaan ibu, jumlah anak, serta jumlah anak yang menjalani PJJ selama pandemi COVID-19.Metode: Penelitian ini adalah penelitian potong lintang dengan menyebarkan kuesioner daring yang ditujukan pada wanita menikah yang memiliki >1 anak di SD-SMA yang menjalani PJJ di Jabodetabek. Data dikumpulkan pada periode 2-20 Desember 2020. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur tingkat stres dan ansietas adalah PSS-10 dan GAD-7. Hasil: Terdapat 311 ibu berusia 27-61 tahun yang mengikuti survey ini. Rata-rata responden mengalami stres derajat sedang dan ansietas derajat ringan. Terdapat peningkatan risiko stres berat secara signifikan pada ibu berlatar belakang pendidikan dasar-menengah (crude RR 2,1; 95%CI 1,04-4,4), dan peningkatan risiko ansietas sedang-berat pada ibu dengan > 3 anak (crude RR 1,9; 95%CI 1,1-3,1).Kesimpulan: Lebih dari 50% ibu dengan anak yang duduk di SD-SMA di Jabodetabek mengalami stres derajat sedang, dan 31% menunjukkan gejala ansietas ringan. Faktor sosiodemografis ibu yang berhubungan dengan risiko stres berat adalah tingkat pendidikan, sedangkan yang berasosiasi dengan risiko ansietas sedang-berat adalah jumlah anak yang tinggal serumah.

The stressful relationship between children and parents is the pain with which both go through when they find themselves unable to cope as a parent or a child. In order to find out the impact COVID-19 pandemic and suggest some solutions to reduce stress between parents and children, we conducted a survey on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stressful relationships between parents and children at high school age in Da Nang city. In a survey of randomly-selected high school students, the findings reveal a high rate of tension between them and their parents, particularly up to 38.5% (212/550). In reality, there are many factors affecting the stressful relationship between children and their parents at this age, in which psychological fear about health; social distancing policy; closed schools; students staying at home 24 hours a day and learning online; the disruption in children's daily routine; excessive use of electronic devices, are major causes of stress in the relationship between children and their parents. From this practice, our research team have proposed such solutions as creating outdoor activities and consulting the handbook; designing extra-curricular activities and more importantly, organizing training courses on life values for parents to increase happiness and reduce stress in parent-child relationship.
